Green Valley Women Golfers

Board Meeting - August 28, 2007

Members in attendance: Joan Mumaugh, Julie Osborn, Itsuko Moridaira, Diane Kelly, Betsy Pelkan, Sharon Murray, Loretta McInnis.

Meeting was called to order at 7:15 a.m. by Joan Mumaugh, Captain.

Minutes from August 7, 2007, were read, and approved as corrected to include "SafeQuest" as the recipient of a check from our members, and changing the date of the last Guest Day from September to July.

Unfinished Business:

Julie Osborn reported on her findings regarding charitable organization in Solano County which we could adopt in place of SafeQuest.  She found Child Haven in Fairfield, although we do donate to them at our Christmas party, and Opportunity House in Vacaville.  There is a Childrens' Cancer Center in Fairfield, but it is not a charitable organization.  Make-A-Wish and the Red Cross are charitable organizations, but the money doesn't stay in Solano County.  Joan suggested this item be included on the agenda for the October general membership meeting to discuss.

Julie also discussed purchasing Logo golf balls to be given out at Guest Days.  She has found a website that will make up the balls and mail them without shipping costs and no sales tax.  The cost would depend on the number of balls ordered as well as the brand of ball selected.  It was the board's recommendation that she get the price for Titelist NXT or Pro V1.  Loretta will give Julie the number of participants in the Guest Days this year as a guideline for ordering.  It was suggested that Julie also check with Mark in the Pro Shop to see what kind of price he can offer.

Diane Kelly reported there is nothing more to report on the mini-invitational scheduled for October 16, 2007.

New Business: None

Committee Reports:

 1.  Co-captain Julie Osborn presented the slate of officers for next year,

pointing out that we still do not have an Invitational Chairman, and the

Mini Invitational Chairman position is vacant because this is a one-year

trial.  If it isn't successful, this position will be dropped.

 2.  Treasurer Melody Scott  was not present, and no report was submitted.

 3.  Guest Day Chairman Loretta McInnis reported that although there is a

conflict with Silverado on September 25th, we will have Guest Day as

scheduled.  Members may invite up to three guests, and it was suggested

that members of Marin Country Club be specifically invited, since their

 course is under construction.

 4.  Rules Chairman Betsy Pelkan advised that the Rules of Golf will have some

changes January 1st, and recommended a Rules Seminar be scheduled for the

early in the year for our members.  She and Sharon Murray are attending a two-day

 Rules Seminar in Alamo.

 5.  Invitational Chairman Deanne Ikard was not present, but Joan talked with her

and was advised the committee would have a final summary report, possibly at the

next board meeting.  Joan said the board wants a breakdown by category of what

was received and spent.  The Board discussed various options for future invitational,

including limiting the field to 30 foursomes and creating a wait list; eliminating a

mandatory charity as part of the entry fee; cutting back on sponsors and

tee prizes.  The open horse race on Wednesday and cocktail party at 6 p.m. was a

good social get together, and gave those players who normally would not be able

to participate in the horse race an opportunity to do so.  However, more holes are

needed to avoid having 13 twosomes playing one hole in an hour.  The guests

complained of having part of their entry fee donated to a charity not of their choice or

benefitting their locale.  Joan commented that if no one comes forward to be the

Invitational Chairman, then we should not have an Invitational next year.

 6.  East Bay Team Play - finished for the year

North Bay Team Plan - finished for the year

     Futures - still playing

 7.  Junior Golf Chairman Itsuko Moridaira is trying to get young girls interested.

 8.  Club Championship Chairman Sharon Murray reported that she has 20 people

signed up.  There will be three flights.  Match play; no handicaps within flights.

The budget for the tournament is $900.  Sharon was authorized to use the money

 as budgeted.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:10 a.m. by Joan Mumaugh, Captain.

Respectfully submitted,

Loretta McInnis, for

Lynne Waslohn, Secretary
